Maintaining one’s confidence in these trying times can be difficult. It appears that everybody is depressed and moody, there aren’t any jobs, and all of the economic is confusing and not encouraging. This means we have to muster up all of our internal strength and find a way to tough it out.Depression is a natural behavior of human beings but if it continues for a prolonged period, it can be a matter of concern. It’s an emotional disorder that can appear for a number of reasons like stress, fear or inability to attain a desired goal. So how do we boost our confidence?
Major life events such as the death of a family member or friend, or the separation or divorce of parents may trigger depression. Certain medical conditions, particularly those that affect hormones, can also cause depression in teens. Substance abuse; poverty; physical; emotional or sexual abuse and violence can all set off teen depression. Genetics plays a role too, as children with family members who have suffered from depression are more susceptible to becoming depressed themselves. Read more...

Depression is the lack of positive thinking or loss of hopefulness. And unfortunately, because of the stigma that still exists concerning depression and its many forms like mental illness, many people who need help do not seek it. Even though there is very clear scientific data that indicates irrefutably that a physical connection exists with most mental disorders, many people still stigmatize others because they stupidly hold on to the misguided beliefs of yesteryear that people with mental disorders are weak or just lack will power.
It is extremely common for people to become depressed over a divorce, and untreated depression is the number one cause for suicide. Thus, a divorce can significantly increase a person’s risk for suicide. A study by the National Institute for Healthcare Research indicates that divorced people are three times as likely to die by suicide as people who are married. Thus, if you are going through a divorce, you need to get a strong support network in place. And get into therapy, whether you think you need to or not. Be proactive. Read more...

The physical and mental health problems associated with problem drinking have direct effects on labour market productivity and reliability.
A tolerance of alcohol develops first, which means a person needs to consume greater quantities of alcohol before the same effects are noticed. Over time, the person may lose control over their drinking and may not be able to stop even if they want to. And if alcohol consumption is reduced or stopped, withdrawal symptoms can be experienced which can range from annoying to life-threatening. This in turn leads to lessened earnings and fewer promotions and raises. Alcohol dependence can develop over the years and follows a generally predictable pattern.
The biggest problem of an alcoholic is denial. They will not easily accept that they have any problem with their alcoholism. They feel that consuming alcohol suits their status and also they have been consuming alcohol since a very long time. Due to this reason, they will not want to accept that they need any kind of treatment. Many people have been told that their alcoholism is something that they will always have and that by putting their faith in a higher power that they will be their only chance of recovery. Though even with this apathetic form of therapy, they are still told that relapse is part of recovery and that they will probably have slip ups on their way.Is alcoholism an incurable disease or is it something that can be overcome? For millions of people this has been a topic that has been debated for years.
One of the great controversies in respect of treatment of alcohol problems is the debate of whether alcoholism is a disease. There is little doubt that regarding alcoholism as a disease, rather than as a moral weakness, has brought benefits to alcoholics/addicts. To some extent it reduced the stigma experienced by sufferers and has opened the door to treatment rather than punishment. It is the mainstay of the belief system of AA and NA groups who have been responsible for helping many to recover from a hopeless state.
